smartass.org

when nick and i started smartass.org a few years back, we had a vision of a cool website where we (and our smartass compatriots) could air our views about life, liberty, and the pursuit of stuff. while the vision was not flawed, perhaps the business model was. (hint: there was no business model.)

we never envisioned this being a full-time occupation, or that we would make any money from this pursuit. for a while we kept up- nick performing his E-I-C duties flawlessly and trying to wrangle in content (as well as doing a lot of writing himself) and me being as big a geek as i could be.

smartass.org reached it's pinnacle probably about the time we were mentioned on slashdot.org by our good friend rob malda (Batch-o-Quickies, January 05, 1999). our visitorship increased from about 1500 views per day to around 92,000 for that golden week.

but alas, real life slowly crept back in, and both nick and myself were distracted with more important, real-life issues. and our dream of running a hobbyist opinion site in our 'spare-time' faded.

what does the future hold for smartass.org? we're not sure. there are still sparks of inspiration here and there, perhaps someday one of them will start a new fire. until then, we thank you for your patronage. feel free to view the archived site here.

if only there were 25 hours in the day...

sincerely,

mike (former geek-in-chief)

a special thanks to our generous provider, DesertSurf Internet Services, for tolerating us all these years.
